Thank you for an excellent reply; excellent if I were looking for "classic fundamentalist thinking."

My original essay was dripping with critical thinking logic - yet you absorbed not one drop; not one!

Here's a simple exercise any reader can follow; let's replace your "THE NHC" with the words "MY CHURCH."

MY CHURCH is the only one people should listen to - because if they don't THEY'LL SUFFER. MY CHURCH is always right and the others are always wrong - except perhaps that nice little one across town that preaches pretty much the same thing as mine (the John Hope Church.) But that big church across the street - OMG! You should hear the nonsense they preach! They are SO wrong about (you fill in the blanks.) And so on, and so on (in the real world this goes on forever doesn't it?)

How many times do I need say - "I'm not defending Bastardi; I'm defending logical thinking!" The mere fact people are raising one single forecaster to the level of the NHC is itself absurd! How proudly we stand that our federal government's forecast was better than Joe Bastardi's - give me a frigg'n break! Is that the height of insanity or what?

WHO PUT THIS GUY ON SUCH A PEDESTAL IN THE FIRST PLACE?

I know how he got there. It was years ago when he had a "moment" and boldly insulted the NHC. It triggered a reaction here that won't die.

"Bastardi insulted MY CHURCH and he's gonna pay for it!" So we ignore the many positive things he does; throw all critical thinking out the window; and create a mystical scenario where he becomes the anti-christ. I can just picture thousands drowning...their last words; "but Bastardi said...gurgle, gurgle, gurgle."

Well, I'm a "rationalist." I don't HAVE a church. I don't take sides on this matter because there AREN'T sides. If one hates Bastardi, one is "100% right." If one loves Bastardi, one is also "100% right." Yet some people are already seeing this as a "right-wrong" question. The depth of flawed logic in this discussion has no bounds!

There's discussion and there's rants. If you or others want to rant - that's perfectly fine; but cloaking a rant with massively flawed logic won't hide it from being what it is. As they say; "a rose by any other name is still a rose."

Have a good day,

Tim in NC
