I hear your views loud and clear Jim. I just don't agree with 'em.

1.) I don't buy the "lives are at stake argument.

2.) Bastardi, by showing the "possibilities" of potentially more dangerous tracks INCREASES both awareness and interest in a storm. To suggest this "puts lives at stake" defies any logic I'm aware of.

3.) To compare Bastardi to "yelling fire in a theater" is hyperbole. I'm sorry but I don't see any reality in this.

4.) I'm aware Accuweather did some lobbying in Pennsylvania (I don't know about the other 49 states.) I think all lobbyists should be deported, but that's another story.

5.) Yes, I can imagine two or more companies arguing whether a warning should be issued - and I'm also aware of the real world  - that authority is never shared 50-50.

6.) If you believe Bastardi is capable of "eroding the trust in the NHC" then I believe (to put it mildly) you are giving him more credit than he is due. When I see the nation in a panic over a Bastardi forecast - I'll take a bus down there and wear your chicken suit!

7.) The NHC missed by only 59 miles because the model consensus never wavered. No one had to THINK.

If the folks at the NHC are worried about losing credibility because of Bastardi - I suggest they stop taking whatever drug they're on. That, or see a shrink to deal with serious insecurity problems.

The public doesn't bow at Bastardi's feet. The average person on the street wouldn't know Bastardi from Bacardi. And the people who ARE into weather...know exactly what he is - a private forecaster.

Jim, you're absolutely RABID about this guy. It's so out of character for you! Really man, it's like you're Rush Limbaugh and Bastardi is Obama; and Accuweather is some great empire conspiring to take over the nation's weather (which is most unlikely being the Constitution mandates government to secure the welfare of the people.) And where did you ever get the idea the government would lay off tons of people and hand over power to a private company? If there's any historical precedent for such a thing - I'm all ears.

Oh well...to each his own. I've tried...and tried...and tried...you've pooped me out!

I can live with being at polar opposites with you on this - I only ask you pause and reflect; and I'll do the same, because clearly something is driving you to the brink with this guy.

Cheers,

Tim
