Well said Mike. To have only the NHC/NWS doing weather would be like having only Goldman Sachs running all of America's finances...hmmm, okay they already do...and you see where THAT got us.

Now I appreciate a good joke as much as the next person and am glad to see one now and then but it's patently clear the NHC/NWS is treated by some like the Medieval Roman Catholic Church; if you espouse any other view, you're a heretic; and if you support an outspoken separatist like Luther (Bastardi) you're apt to be burned at the stake.

Linear thinking has forever been the bane of religion - yet one can't get out of college without being taught the absolute failure of linear thinking in business and other endeavors.

And even knowing the dangers of linear thinking we still do it anyway (the housing bubble anyone?)

The problem with linear thinking is that it leaves one with too small a "reality box." And because the world is for the most part the same from one day to the next, this huge logic failure feeds on itself.

Everyone knows I was years ago ranting: "Sell your house! Buy gold! Wait a few years then do the reverse!" (I wasn't guessing - I did tons of research then saw the train wreck a mile away.)

Virtually every one of my friends and family said: "The price of houses ALWAYS goes up." PURE LINEAR THINKING.

The non-linear thinker would have sold his house; bought gold (which more than doubled) then turned around and bought a similar house for far less than its old value. Yea, it's work - but it beats hell out of owning a house that's underwater! (And yes, some people actually did this.)

Linear thinkers are sheep waiting to be shorn. Bastardi is a non-linear thinker. I like him for that.

P.S. No, I'm not up late; I'm up early (as my day/night cycle wobbles around worse than any hurricane or model track...sigh.)
