Tropical Tropopause Layer

Mike:

I ran across this paper, don't know if you have seen it:

http://mls.jpl.nasa.gov/library/2008rg000267.pdf

It mentions that the tropopause is heated mainly by both solar IR and UV of O3.

So, the lowering of the tropause is a two step process.

1) X-ray flux increases 03 concentration.
2) IR & UV heating of O3 then creates a larger tropopause pressure thus reducing its height.

Apparently, there is a diuranl effect then as well.
