All the way back to 1992 ...

The last time a season started this late .... 1992.  The re-analysis project officially would negate this, as they later re-classified a system in the early part of that season.

But as it happened in real time, back in 1992, Andrew did not receive a name until August 15.

2009, could give 1992 a run for its money.  The 1980s saw lots of August starts.

Bobbi earlier alluded to the fact that some systems got names, didn't get names, yada yada yada.  History is what it is.  The bottom line is that, in real time, 2009 has been whisper quiet, and for the foreseeable future, is going to surpass a lot of other years as a later start.

I am not speaking to the active or inactive status of this year, but just to the absolute lack on anything.

I think we may still be 10 days or more away from a named storm.
