The "trough amplification" which you are speaking about was clearly evident over the upper midwest and into southern Canada. In response though, further south it lags just a little in coming through the mid-Atlantic states. Thus the temporary resurgence of high pressure along E Coast waters, which is clearly evident on sat loop. Perhaps the UKMET is flawed as some have implied, but now the GFS takes the storm dangerously close to New England. I do not say that Bill will necessarily make landfall in New England, but it might, and its looking like its gonna be way too close for comfort in any event for those in Nantucket, Cape Cod, and Martha's Vinyard.
