Long Island Hurricane Way Overdue?

Hi There,

Although Hurricane Bill will likely not make a direct hit on Long Island or anywhere on the U.S. East Coast, now may be a time to reflect that it appears this has now been the longest stretch of time the Long Island has not experienced a direct hit from a hurricane.  The last was Hurricane Gloria in 1985.  That was nearly 24 years ago.  Over the last 100 years, it appears the longest stretch of time was between Hurricane Donna in 1960 and Hurricane Belle in 1976.  That is a period of 17 years.

So, needless to say, Long Island and Coastal Connecticut are way over due for a landfalling hurricane.

That is just something to keep in mind.  This could be the year.
