Just asked my vet, (well...my cats' vet, Dr. P. Wright), about that. Here is her response:
"There is no evidence that cats and dogs can pass on the disease to people. There was a caretaker that was positive. The 1 Tiger tested positive from that. There has not been a positive test in dogs and cats in the US. The tests overseas were again animals that were in homes with positive owners. It's no different than a ferret catching the flu from their human. But a ferret can not give the flu to the human."

As an addendum, she added: "I'm scared these reports are going to start meaning the surrendering or euthanasia of a lot of innocent creatures."

(I hope she does not mind my quoting her...she is brilliant and I have full trust in her, so felt that I should share her wisdom. )
