Very weird setup in the tropics right now.  Gaston spent nearly two days getting absolutely ripped apart by a ULL to its southeast, and still survives.  The new depression spent nearly two days getting ripped from that same ULL as well as another to its southeast, yet it is now thriving.  99L has spent its entire existence being tortured by dry air, heavy shear, mountainous terrain, and four different ULLs now within 500 miles of it, YET it is currently developing a LLC between the Keys and the north central Cuba coast.

The whole place should be a ghost town, and yet there are two classified systems and a third one that is going to make one last go at it.
