Re: Some Mainstream Links

Hi Argosy. I know I get excessively defensive about science..and I apologize for that. I was definitely too personal on that last one.

Your discussions are perfectly fine. I just get frustrated when I see so many distortions, falsehoods, conspiracies and what have you....on the internet, on TV, etc. And this includes both science and politics in general.

Today it's harder than ever to find the truth because in our electronic age there's a flood of misleading or just plain false information.

I was already well into my 40s when the internet (and cable news/politics) started going mainstream; which means I'm basically from the era of newspapers, books, and magazines (which I always enjoyed reading.) But today? Oh man, from Fox News (which I do watch in amazement) to Youtube science I'm confronted with an "alternate reality"!

I have a feeling that most people today just don't care to put any effort into learning. Sitting back and getting history lessons from Glen Beck is easier than reading books; and the internet, while certainly useful, requires a heavy dose of serious critical thinking.

Anyway, I actually enjoy reading most the posts here; I wish everyone were as enthusiastic about learning science!

Sincerely,

Tim in NC
