I've seen video on the net of him in debates and discussions but I've never read any of his books until now (it was given to me.) The book's subject is not much similar to what I've seen of him on the net - it's a short (140 page) discourse on "standing up" instead of being a part of the masses who tend to do whatever is convenient or popular.

Hitchens is extraordinarily rational; and being a European intellectual, it's quite natural he's not a theist (if he were, it would be an oxymoron.) His challenges cover just about any topic one can think of, but his anti-theism stance stands out here in the U.S. because we're such a highly religious nation.

He's also a staunch defender of science. Here's a goody from the past:

Understandably, religious zealots hate the man but he's clearly brilliant.

I wasn't aware he wrote a book on Jefferson. That sounds like a must read. Thanks for the tip!
