The Virginia to New Jersey coast is "protected" by North Carolina. Then we get to New York - you're not protected by anything except your northern latitude.

Those storms that strike New York and points north sail past the VA-NJ stretch of coast - over and over and over...

It takes a real oddball of a storm to turn left and strike anyone on the VA-NJ coast. And Dela-where? Fuhgetaboudit!

But nor'easters - now that's a different story...

Tim in NC (who's spent many summers on the Delaware coast - going all the way back to the early '50s.)
