This suggests to me that the "cone" approach to forecasting a hurricane's potential future path has become archaic. In an age when so much more specific information is at the fingertips of anyone who seeks it, the cone may in fact now be obsolete. The wind-field loop you posted, for example, is a much more informative indicator of what Bermuda can expect to experience today than any forecast cone. I think it is time the NHC abandon the cone entirely in favor of something of far more relevance, such as a forecast path for a storm's windfield rather than its exact LLC. It would be difficult, perhaps, to take that approach because the path would have to somehow depict future contractions or expansions of a given storm's wind field. But, I think it can be done.
