It's definitely a good reminder, although I wonder if it was prompted at all by anyone specifically hyping 96L. (They did attach a satellite image of 96L to that post.)

Seems more general perhaps, although the 5 day outlook's potential formation area might be rather scary to people who have not seen it before:

I guess I could see why that is not on the front page. It seems more alarming than it is when red. In reality it means that within 5 days there is a 60% chance or greater that a tropical depression or higher will form within that area. If the something were to develop, whether it might be a tropical depression, a major hurricane, or something inbetween, is not covered by the image.

Although they are talking about a week out or more. That far out, anything is kind of hype, no matter who it is, online or not. Maybe some people might confuse something for being real less than that amount of time out, but forecasts further out than that are rather nuts. But I could see something dire being easily shared on Facebook or Twitter. Crazy things can get viral very quickly.

Hopefully the end result would only be to have someone be prepared, who should have already been prepared. Although of course when things are hyped too much, people stop paying attention, so that is always a great concern.
