All I can think of is how the Great Hurricane of 1938 transpired. Out of all the Meteorologists in the Washington Weather Bureau at the time, only one made the call that it would hit New England.  That was the Junior Forecaster. But, no one wanted to listen to him, so there was no warning of the impending storm.

So, not to imply anything here, but I just think maybe we've all gotten a bit too comfortable with all the computer models.  They have in rare instances made complete reversals in the past. Have they not?  Sure, it looks fairly certain at this point that the East Coast will be spared a direct hit.  But, that's good and bad in a way.  People will be all the more complacent the next time up here.  When the storm really does hit, people won't listen and they will die.  That simple.

In a way, I wish Joe Bastardi is right or at least the storm comes a lot closer than people here thought it would.  I think if it at least caused a big enough scare in New England, next time when there is a real direct hit, people will be less complacent and prepare properly.
