Question on Andrew season

| Now that I am hearing so many cautious comparisons between this season and 1992 when we also waited until August for a first named storm that turned out to be a cat 5 hurricane, I'm wondering how many depressions we had in 1992 before Andrew? I ask because I do not believe we have had a single depression all season this year, have we? I vaguely recall something in the GOM very early on, but I'm not sure. If Andrew was preceded by a few depressions that never earned names, then to me that is one interesting factor that sets the two seasons apart. I believe the stat is that one out of every four seasons sees its first name in August, but is it just as common to see not a single depression until August as well? |
