we used to live south of Jersey Village area, just off White Oak Bayou in NW Harris Co.

our old subdivision sank approx 5 ft over a relatively short time period - they don't allow groundwater to be used/pumped out by municipal utility districts any longer, but hard to get the cat back in the bag. we sold to the flood control district after our home flooded for the 2nd time & our subdivision/neighbors, a third. It was demolished, the lot grazed of the concrete it was built on & a huge retention pond built a couple blocks from our old front door

our current home/subdivision in Cypress was an island, surrounded by flooding devastation during Harvey. We only had 30" of rain from Harvey in our little corner of the county, many had it much worse. The construction of new subdivisions continues at a constant pace, going further out from the flooding as time goes on, but creating more flooding at the same time - not so very long ago, our subdivision was farming pasture, the "lakes" as they call them now, were once livestock watering ponds
