It had more surge in some areas than I would have thought for a fast moving storm. If it had turned sooner it would have possibly exceeded that 4-6 feet forecast. Unfortunately with a fast moving storm like it was, there wasn't much time to watch it for a bit like you often can with storms.

With it strengthening like it was, and early on being right of the forecast track, it did pose a threat. It was just moving so fast that when things did look better for the panhandle it wasn't until around the time it would have been late to make the decision to evacuate.

It was kind of hard to determine what kind of threat the storm posed. It missed most of the opportunity to strengthen over the warmest water of the NW Carib, instead trying to organize during that time, then started organizing in a hurry despite the fast movement.

I know it does make some less likely to evacuate again. Every storm is different, but the fast movement didn't leave a lot of time for this one. Hopefully it will be a bit clearer next time. Unfortunately when there is a threat, action has to be taken. Of course weighing how much of a threat determines what action. It's always good to err on the side of caution and I think there was enough uncertainty with this storm. If you could not have handled 7 to 8 feet of water rise and/or winds of a category two hurricane, I think you made the right call. The storm didn't end up that way near you, but that was looking to be a possibility at the time.
