I wonder if the problem is their leadership. I have heard that there is a lot of corruption in many places including infrastructure. Apparently the country was already in dire shape/bankrupt due to gross mismanagement of previous US funds over decades.

Money and help sent has to go to the people that need it asap, not corrupt officials/businesses who say they are helping recovery but are really pocketing the money.  So sad. And, those same leaders have demanded the US bail them out...and please send more $$!

There are hundreds of people on that island now that have arrived and are addressing multiple issues.  And, a lot of volunteer organizations are beginning to arrive too.  The US is not sitting by not doing anything, but you have got to get safeguards/oversight  in there or the poor people will get nothing.
