Here on Pensacola Beach, at the far western end of the panhandle, we found ourselves on the only short stretch of Gulf coastline along the entire perimeter of the state that was never under a watch or warning from Irma. The most we saw in that regard was a wind advisory -- and we did get a day or two of very stiff winds, with gusts occasionally nearing tropical storm force, but no sustained winds even high enough to close bridges (39 mph). The wind, along with scuttling dark clouds and a few wind-driven showers, made for a nasty couple of days, whoopee. And, even after that huge storm was hundreds of miles north and east of us, the wind was still strong enough to expose parts of the bay bottoms in our area.   (Amazing reach, that Irma.) But as far as I know there were no widespread power outages or significant damages in the vicinity, and we count ourselves among the extremely fortunate. This time.  Of course we've had our share of major hurricanes in the past, and doubtless will again. It is, as they say, the price we pay for living in paradise.
Chris and all, thanks for the reports.  Wishing everyone the best and fastest possible recovery.  What a relief that Jose's apparently headed elsewhere!!  I'm sure you've all had enough to last you for years, thank you very much.
