Only two tropical cyclones during that period have hit Costa Rica, both 40mph or less.

A tropical storm in 1887 with 40mph wind:

A tropical depression in 1973 with 35mph wind:

Nothing on the East Pacific side.



Because of that fact, the results of a hurricane strike are unknown. That is what makes this storm potentially dangerous.
