Hi everyone!  Thanks for asking  and caring about me.  We evacuated to stay with friends in Valdosta, Georgia and returned to our home on Alligator Point yesterday (Sat. 9/3).  Our house is fine ... no damage from Hurricane Hermine ... and yes, the road is a media target for photo ops every time a big storm approaches because Alligator Drive always washes out.  Our house is located on Alligator Drive before the area that washes out so we do not usually lose access for driving in or out of our driveway.  This storm messed up our yard and made some big holes that will need to be filled and new vegetation planted to make it look nice again.  We are on very high pilings about 60 feet from the edge of the open Gulf with a granite revetment between the pilings and the water.  We had planted a high sea-oat berm between the granite revetment and the house pilings and that berm and all the sea-oats are completely gone.  That is the primary area of damage to our property from Hermine.  The hardy board and windows on the outside of our house are so clean from the wind-driven rain that it looks like we had it professionally power-washed.  We had to shovel sand away from the front of our elevator door, but the elevator works fine and has no damage.  We were very lucky ... this time.  This is not our first experience with a hurricane (storm surge from Hurricane Dennis in July 2005 destroyed our previous ground-level concrete block dwelling) and we know that we will be dealing with the risk of severe loss as long as we live on Alligator Point.  This forum is one of my main sources of information and helps me stay safe when storms are headed our way.  I am grateful to all of you for taking the time to share that "heads up" information and answer questions.
