They seriously screwed up. They knew a couple days in advance of leaving of waves forecast to be around 30 feet and about when they left they should have known of hurricane wind warnings in the area they planned to sail through. And the coast guard learned of it through social media reports?!? It seems nothing has been learned after the El Faro disaster. They should not have sailed through the storm. But after that mistake, they should have notified the coast guard immediately when the ship was being trashed and people were being injured. What if something had happened and they had to evacuate the ship? Every bit of notice in order to rescue people, on a ship with five to six thousand people, would have been essential. Lets be real, I don't see how you could evacuate a ship like that, with everyone surviving, if they ever had a real problem in a storm like that.

Ships have to stop purposefully sailing into hurricane force winds, whether the storm has a name or not. In our part of the world anyway. Some routes simply have terrible conditions, but the ships and crew are probably much more prepared. (and they are definitely not cruise ship routes of course)

50% off your next cruise is hilarious. After all the outbreaks of illness on cruise ships, I would probably never go on a cruise ship anyway, but now that I see they are making stupid decisions like this, I wouldn't go if I won a free trip.

And by the way, the Aliso Canyon leak has been stopped, for now at least:
