The thing I foresee should something this strong come our way is a very chaotic, lumbering evacuation full of people who otherwise tend not to evacuate. In the face of a storm this strong, everyone would want to get out of here. That is potentially more than a million people cramming 75, 275, I-4 and all other roadways simultaneously. It likely would take 8 to 10 hours just to get to Orlando, if not more. As you allude to as well, where do you go in this state to escape a storm that powerful? Probably not Orlando. Probably someplace farther than that. Good luck getting there in less than a day.

The additional complication you mention, a storm that rapidly deepens to the point of taking even NHC by surprise, would compound the frenzy of evacuation efforts. I almost wonder if folks would be riding out the storm in their cars while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.

This is a scenario I hope never to even come close to having to deal with. Terrifying.
