Statement from National Weather Service Mobile

Being in PCB, obviously still concerned over what "might" happen. Some of the media seems to be in disagreement. Found this article. Do you all agree or have comments with Purdy's statement.

"Looking at the models it looks like there's going to be real slow progress to the north, and then exactly where it's going to come onshore really nobody knows at this point, especially if it's in a deteoriating state like it's expected to be," said John Purdy, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Mobile.

While there is a lot of warm water in the Gulf that could help fuel a tropical storm, there is also expected to be wind shear, which would make it difficult for what's left of Erika to restrengthen, Purdy said.

"It will have a hard time surviving," he said. "If you look at the overall pattern there is going to be an upper trough which is going to have increased wind shear with it across the the lower Mississippi River area and across the western Gulf of Mexico. That trough is going to sit there all next week and so that would provide an unfavorable environment for further development of Erika, especially farther west."

As of Saturday morning the main impacts from Erika's remnants will be heavy rain and rough seas later this week near the Gulf Coast. It will also raise the risk of rip currents near the beaches, Purdy said.
