Definitely. The kinks seem to have been worked out now. (It's worked for the past few missions.) It will operate a bit slower than my site as it only updates every 5 minutes, compared to every 1 minute for my site. (Most every host does not allow something to operate every minute automatically.) But since my site can probably crash easily, it's a reliable alternative. (That's the trade off with my site, my host allows it but so can everyone else.) When multiple planes are out from the same agency it will likely miss some obs for about half an hour to 45 minutes until the NHC recon archive updates. (My site can still miss obs too though if they come in too fast.) There is a lot of data that has to be checked in the NHC recon archive and a lot of hosts might have a problem with checking too often. (It can become many gigabytes of data for the year checking directory listings too often.) Plus it takes some time for an ob to appear in the archive so checking often would not help in that case anyway.
If the HC recon site gets used a lot though I might look at alternative ways to make it operate faster, like load the checking system from the main page if 1 minute or so has passed since the last check, but I don't know how to do that yet. I'm just seeing how well it does operating every 5 minutes by cron task which is as often as it can update using that method at HC. |
