Interesting points Chris funny thing is there have been plenty of stories written on hurricanecity in the press and just last year I was invited to be on a panel in the keys about hurricanes. Afterwords I was invited to go tarpon fishing on a boat with Max Mayfield where we talked quite a bit about his career at NHC, WPLG  and my work on hurricanecity. I felt it was more exploratory to find out about the website and myself,in hind sight maybe I did not make a good impression. I told him how difficult it has been the ups & downs of maintenance and finances.  In social circles I do not like to throw out stats and try not  to show off my knowledge in fact I down play it quite a bit. I even told Max the site makes little money basically breaking even for the most part a labor of love with a lot of help from people like you and yes he had heard of you and knows your recon work. You see Max Mayfield is on the board of these conference committees and decides who can speak & who cannot and since I downplayed HC I may have shot myself in the foot. Also there is this notion that HC is a hurricane forecast website which it is not, it simply use's NHC products and displays them differently  but no one on these boards wants someone speaking at a conference with a perception of competing with NHC. For years Max was not a fan of chasers but realized in time that the videos were valuable tools in what wind & water does to structures,so I guess he is OK with it now but yet you still don't see chasers at the National or governors conferences.. Overall his perception of HC was mostly wrong or misunderstood for example I told him when an invest pops I get excited the site starts monitoring and the internet starts buzzing in which he raised his eyebrows . Basically I may have come across like a nut getting excited over hurricanes who the hell gets excited over hurricanes? as a result i'll never get invited to speak,oh well! but at least I was honest & he had to respect that. As far as the tropical conference I will be monitoring the live feeds and think that conference is on the right track.
