I don't know the research behind it, but they apparently did consider intensity.

I guess some names sound meaner if there is something notable with the name. (Ivan the Terrible) There are some storm names that can strike fear. But that is before the storm forms when you look at a list. I have never thought about people actually subconsciously judging a storm by its name rather than its actual real threat once it has developed.

When I first saw the headlines I thought it was nuts, but I guess I can see some people being that way, maybe not even subconsciously. But then the question is, if this were actually verified, and it could save lives, should only male names be used?
