| Hot water is only one ingredient. We have 40 kts of shear over much of the GoM and the Yucatan Channel right now. You can put a storm over a hot tub in that kind of shear and you will not have a hurricane. People put too much weight on SSTs--what will the upper-level dynamics be? What sort of upper-level support will a storm encounter? How much dry air is in its path? Those are more important questions than water temps to me, because ultimately those are more critical factors in a storm's ability to develop and intensify. |
