Good morning folks. This is a quick update. The tropics have been pretty quiet for the last 2 or 3 weeks. This morning we have newly formed Hurricane Paula in the western Caribbean. I'll be heading out this morning on an AF Reserve Hurricane Hunter flight to survey Paula but I suspect from the looks of satellite, we'll find she will barely hold onto hurricane status. Already this morning the IR loops show significantly decreased deep convection at a time of day that we normally expect a diurnal maximum in tropical convection.

I'll take my camera and hope to get some good pictures to bring back and post for you.

The open Atlantic is also pretty quiet right now.

I'll post this evening when I get back from Paula.

Have a great day!

Randy
