Paula appears to be nearing Hurricane force
Posted by Jake on 10/11/2010, 10:04 pm
Paula has continued to become better defined this evening with some evidence of a partial eyewall on the eastside of the center. Strong convection with -80c temps around the CDO. There appears to have been a brief movement towards the ENE, but this is likely a reformation of the center being pulled under the deep convection.

The storm should continue towards the NW with some increase in forward speed tonight and tomorrow from the current 9mph too 10-12mph as she turns around the western edge of the sub-tropical ridge. Paula should become our next hurricane before 8am tomorrow if not sooner. The environment is conducive, the ocean warmth is deep and the ventilation should further improve as she deepens.

I am giving this storm a 60/40 chance of affecting Florida. This will take several days, as the first in a series of mid lat trough will attempt to pull her out of the Carib.
