What's up with this?

Just looking at the latest IR and WV loops from GOES. Noticed something interesting.

In the late frames, there seems to be an increase in cloud cover expanding westward and some strange spikes between the westerly feeder band and the COC.

I mention it because I didn't expect to see the system expanding westerly. I expect to see the inbound front pushing against from the west. This seems to indicate a westerly weakness where would should be seeing shearing. Strange, very, very strange.
