If you are on high ground you should be fine on all but barrier islands.  Just get a good kit together and have a strong interior room with no windows to go to if it gets bad.  Windows blew out in NOLA   , but the buildings stood just fine.  Too many people to move and more would likely get injured in a panic.  Most damage will be from water and waves at the shoreline.
