as strong as Katrina was in the middle of the GOM, and for the impressive length of time she spent at Cat4 and 5 it's not a surprise to me that she demolished the Central Gulf Coastline like she did,as for Camille i wasn't even born yet but from various pictures and this video,while powerful and damaging, i doubt she was as strong as reported, in my opinion. Camille might have rapidly intensified while over water but peak intensity could have been brief   and might have  been a Category lower than reported.What amazed me about Katrina was the length of time she was at peak intensity,it was apparent to me as she approached the Central Gulf coast she was going to do serious damage from storm surge even though her winds weakened.
