The Bermuda/Azores Ridge does not seem to be as far to the west as it normally is this summer. So, we're going to probably get a fair share of storms that recurve before they hit land; if this pattern continues. (A big "if" )
I would argue that 1995 was the year of the fish. I remember of a bunch of Cape Verde hurricanes that curved back out to sea.  Hurricane Opal, late in the season, was not a Cape Verde, and did hit land.
