I think I'm going with an ordinary surge protection strip

I'm going to go to Home Depot to do some final research, but then I'm going to likely but two of these online:

More about it from Belkin.com:

The other thing I mentioned:

I decided not to get. My cable company said something like that would not allow two way communication, like for anything other than regular cable TV. I'm not sure though if that is true or not because the company said it would. The reasons I decided against it were only a 5 year warranty. Plus, I tried comparing it to other methods and while I didn't ever figure out the proper conversions to compare them, I think the strip is better. I did try a cheaper surge protector with cable protection and it did allow two way communication. (which is needed for digital cable, VOIP telephone, and internet)

The only way to really protect things is unplugging things completely right before a storm, even if you have a surge protector. Of course if you do, you need to make sure that you unplug cable lines too. If you don't unplug the cable line that is running through a surge protector but you do unplug the surge protector from the wall, that surge protector will no longer be grounded and the surge will still travel right through the cable.

I'm likely going to have one of these strips protecting just the cable in my attic as soon as it comes in but before it travels elsewhere. The other one will be around my main computer where my modem, printer, monitor, and other electronics are at. That will protect me even more I think. I might even see if it is possible to use two surge protectors at once. (I'm not sure if one would be grounded through another one or not)

And in case anyone is interested, how surge protectors work:
