very simplistically put in few words:

lows attract lows
lows stay away from highs

a low will follow a low of any kind

if a high is above a storm and builds in it becomes trapped and pushed by the high

if a high (dark area) on wv reaches under a storm it will lift it... and then work in conjunction sometimes...with a track away from that high and towards a low

to complicate things auggie a major hurricane like this carries a high a loft..on top of it, like a monkey on its back and sometimes that high outweighs the other high or reinforces it

white...water...clouds
black... high dry air

hope this helps

had a friend who lived there, she loved to go by that term..hope you don't mind
