There are two thresholds to ID a hot-tower: 1) Rain-rate > 20 mm/hr. 2) Cu-Nimb's higher than 14.5 km (20 dbZ on radar).
I got the rain-rate from the Giovanni toolset.

Click on rain-rate, then create a box in the map in the area SW of CV; then hit GENERATE PLOT.
